About the project

Dana Assist is a medical AI assistant for doctors — primarily Spanish-speaking clinicians — built around an AI chat assistant, patient notes, lab results, medical protocols, a medication reference, and real-time audio transcription and translation during consultations. It runs as a web app and native iOS/Android apps, backed by a shared platform underneath.

Challenge

The client came to GRND with an idea, not a spec. The two sides ran a joint brainstorm to shape the product, then wrote it up as a full scope of work — a single product that would need a backend, a web app and native mobile apps working as one system, handling real clinical workflows and sensitive patient data, with realtime chat, live audio and AI woven through all of it from day one.

One product, built completely

Most agency engagements mean picking up one layer of an existing system. Here there wasn't an existing system — just an idea for a clinical AI assistant. GRND built the whole thing: an AI chat assistant, secure patient notes, lab analyses, medical protocols, a medication reference, and live audio transcription and translation during consultations — the backend, the web app, and the native iOS/Android app, all as one product. One team owned every layer, from the first brainstorm to the API.

One realtime backbone, every platform

Chat with the AI assistant, chat between doctors, and live audio translation all needed to feel instant — on web and on two mobile platforms. GRND built one realtime layer and kept it working the same way across the backend, the web app and the mobile app, backed by one shared login system, so a doctor's session behaves identically no matter which device they pick up.

Handling data that actually has to stay private

This isn't a product where security is an afterthought — it holds real patient information. GRND encrypted patient data stored on the phone itself, not just data moving between the app and the server, and built login around PIN codes and biometrics rather than something weaker and quicker to ship. The security bar here matches what a clinical product actually needs, not what a typical consumer app gets by default.
